Mayor Scanlon and the City of Buffalo to Host an Olympic Inspired Theme Day for City Seniors

Buffalo, New York - Mayor Christopher P. Scanlon and the City of Buffalo Office of Senior Services encouraged City seniors to register as participants of the Buffalo's first Annual 2025 Senior Olympics. The Olympic Inspired Theme Day is scheduled for Friday, September 12th at Martin Luther King, Jr. Park, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., less than six months from the start of the XXV Olympic Winter Games, known as Milano Cortina 2026, at sites across Lombardy and Northeast Italy.

Mayor Christopher P. Scanlon said, "With the excitement of the 2026 Winter Olympics right around the corner, this is a great time to bring the Olympic spirit to our beloved City seniors. Buffalo is very fortunate to have a caring, vibrant and dynamic senior population, and our Olympic-themed senior event will be a fun way for our older adults to stay active, engage with their peers from senior centers citywide and showcase their physical, mental and social athleticism in a safe and supportive environment."

Games will include friendly competitions in checkers, chess, pickleball, bocce ball, corn hole, walking relays, as well as balance and exercise activities and a closing Olympic-like ceremony to celebrate the athletes and participants. All activities are specifically designed to foster a sense of purpose and accomplishment, while motivating individuals to stay active and healthy. Interested seniors must register by Friday, September 5, 2025, to take part in the activities. They can scan the QR Code in the attached flyer or call the Office of Senior Services at (716) 851-4141.

The city is also looking to partner with the local business community. As a potential Senior Olympics Corporate Sponsor, businesses can align themselves with a very meaningful event that showcases their commitment to older adults, while enabling their business to gain valuable exposure and community good will. There are a variety of sponsorship levels, allowing businesses to choose the level of involvement that best suits their business.
