WASHINGTON, DC- Wednesday, Rep. Gil Cisneros (CA-31) led the Congressional Dads Caucus in a roundtable on the importance of national service. Rep. Cisneros was joined by a panel of speakers including Dr. Jill Rough, Former Director of Research at the National Commission on Military, National, and Public Service and Shawn Skelly, former Assistant Secretary of Defense for Readiness.
"Service changed my life and I want to ensure that youth all across the country know that service is a way to develop valuable career skills and give back to your community," said Rep. Cisneros. "I'm proud to partner with Dads Caucus to shed light on these important opportunities and what we can do-as Members of Congress and dads-to encourage young people to get involved in service."
"I want to thank my colleague, Congressman Gil Cisneros, for leading this month's Dads Caucus meeting," said Dads Caucus Chair Rep. Jimmy Gomez (CA-34)."Rep. Cisneros's lifelong commitment to service, from his years in the U.S. Navy to his work here in Congress, exemplifies what it means to be both a dedicated public servant and a proud father. Together, we'll keep working to open more pathways into public service for young people and create real opportunities for the next generation."
"We are grateful to the Congressional Dads Caucus for the opportunity to represent the work of our former colleagues, the commissioners and staff of the National Commission on Military, National, and Public Service, and engage in a robust dialogue on the findings and recommendations in our final report to Congress, Inspired to Serve," said Dr. Jill Roughand Shawn Skelly. "All forms of service to our neighbors, communities, and our country offer those who serve the opportunity to uplift and enrich their own lives while forming connections as Americans, particularly in the case of young people who serve. We look forward to the Dads Caucus taking these enduring truths forward in response to America's needs today."
