South Alabama Work-Based Learning Convening Highlights Statewide Collaboration to Strengthen Workforce Opportunities

Greenville, Ala. - The Alabama Office of Apprenticeship (AOA) hosted the South Alabama Work-Based Learning Convening at Lurleen B. Wallace Community College. This event brought together employers, educators, and workforce leaders to share best practices and strengthen partnerships in apprenticeship and work-based learning programs.

The event provided businesses that are currently participating, or interested in participating, in apprenticeship programs an opportunity to hear directly from other employers and stakeholders who have successfully implemented these initiatives. Presenters included Audrey Webb, Director of Work-Based Learning for the Alabama Community College System; Dr. Robin McGill, Deputy Director of the Alabama Commission on Higher Education; and representatives from the Alabama Division of Youth Services, Baldwin County Schools, Lurleen B. Wallace Community College, Eastern Shore Chamber Foundation, Enterprise State Community College, ForestryWorks, GLAM, Bishop State Community College, and the Troy Small Business Development Center.

"Events like this showcase the power of collaboration in workforce development," said Meredith Smith, Director of the Alabama Office of Apprenticeship. "By connecting employers with educators and workforce partners, we're helping build an Alabama where everyone has access to the skills and opportunities they need to succeed and ensure every business has the workforce it needs to grow."

The South Alabama Work-Based Learning Convening is part of AOA's ongoing efforts to expand high-quality training programs across the state. AOA supports the development of registered apprenticeships and related work-based learning models that create clear, sustainable pathways to in-demand careers.
