SAVANNAH, GA - Weather permitting, the Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) contractors will implement intermittent single lane closures on the US 17/SR 404 Spur Bridge to allow crews to perform survey and inspection activities ahead of the start of cable replacement work later this year.
When/Where:
Beginning Thursday, September 10, 2026 until Friday, September 25, 2026.
These intermittent lane closures are necessary to provide a safe work environment for crews while maintaining mobility for the traveling public. Motorists should expect periodic delays and exercise caution when traveling through the work zone.
Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and consider alternate routes when possible. Travelers should remain alert for changing traffic patterns, workers, and construction equipment in the area.
These activities are for the US 17/SR 404 Spur Bridge Major Maintenance project (PI # 0019219), Georgia DOT's first CM/GC project. The project is replacing the existing cables across the main span of the bridge along with the bridge bearings and joints as part of the planned maintenance for the cable-stayed bridge. The project will also explore shortening the cables to reprofile the existing bridge to obtain a higher vertical clearance and improve ship navigation within the channel.
