The three-year INTER project has ended at the Finnish Security and Intelligence Service (SUPO). The project developed a desktop application for researchers and analysts, which makes it possible to combine, classify and analyse data in different formats by applying artificial intelligence.
SUPO has completed its three-year Intelligence Analysis and Research Suite (INTER) project. The total cost of the project was approximately EUR 4 million. The EU's Internal Security Fund (ISF) co-financed the project with funding of EUR 2.8 million.
The aim of the project was to improve SUPO's ability to identify phenomena that jeopardise security, to understand large data entities and to formulate situation assessments.
The outcome of the project was a desktop application for researchers and analysts that was developed for SUPO. The intelligence analysis and research tools produced in the project make it possible to combine, classify and analyse data in different formats using artificial intelligence.
Automating work stages reduces the amount of manual work, improves the efficiency of analysis processes and supports management by information. The automated analysis developed in the project helps to identify links and weak signals in advance that would not necessarily be detected by manual data processing. This also reduces the operational risk of overlooking some essential connection.
During the project, personnel were also trained to use the system.
The results of the project are visible as more efficient processes, better quality in analysis work and positive user feedback.
