Customers may see low pressure, discolored water during water tower maintenance

(COLUMBIA, MO) -

On Monday, Aug. 24, the City of Columbia Water Utility will begin draining the Walnut Water Tower to continue regularly scheduled major maintenance.

During the early stages of draining, water pressure in the surrounding area will be reduced slightly for a few hours. This could result in some discolored water while the distribution system stabilizes.

Crews will be replacing interior and exterior coatings that will extend the life of the tower. The project will also include safety upgrades.

Customers who experience discolored water extending into the evening should run a cold faucet for 10 to 15 minutes. If the water does not clear, the customer can contact the Water Utility at 573.874.CITY (2489).
