Statement on the Release of the Commission on Government Efficiency Preliminary Report

Our President & CEO Carlo A. Scissura submitted testimony to the Charter Revision Commission in support of modernizing New York City's permitting process. Read his full statement below:

"For more than 100 years, back when the Building Congress was first founded, development in New York City has been hampered by antiquated requirements connected to the original structure of the Department of Buildings. The Charter Commission holds the key to unlocking the door of streamlining those processes, increasing transparency, and speeding up construction, safely and smartly.

As a former Charter Commission Chair, I understand the power these entities have to responsibly usher the city into the 21st century and beyond.

The Building Congress and its members wholeheartedly support a central permitting hub and look forward to working with the Commission, the Mamdani administration and the City Council to implement reforms that allow New York development to thrive and finally put an end to our dual housing and affordability crises."
