Rep. Beatty Statement on House Vote to Extend Government Funding and Avoid Shutdown

WASHINGTON, DC- U.S. Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (OH-03) issued the following statement on the passage of the House Continuing Resolution funding the government at current Fiscal Year 2024 levels through December 20, 2024:

"Today, I joined my House Democratic colleagues in voting for a stopgap funding bill to once again narrowly avert a harmful shutdown and keep the government running through mid-December. Let's be clear: this crisis was avoidable. House Republicans continue to do a great disservice to the American people by wasting time on extreme funding bills rooted in Trump's Project 2025 agenda-bills that will never become law.

Back in March, we passed bipartisan funding bills for fiscal year 2024 nearly six months overdue because the House Republican majority played these same political games. Instead of learning their lesson and building on that bipartisan momentum, House Republicans chose to squander time pushing more funding bills laced with extreme ideology. The most recent of these bills failed last week due to insufficient support from their own party.

House Republicans rejected bipartisan negotiations, knowing that appropriations require support from both parties to become law. Last November, they placed us in the same distressing position of an impending government shutdown. Americans deserve better-and they should demand it at the polls this November."
