Congress urged to rein in state overreach

Schuiteman tells House Ag Committee that laws like California's Prop 12 disrupt markets and hurt family farms.

Farmers need Congress to pass legislation preventing state and local governments from interfering with livestock production in other states, Iowa Farm Bureau District 3 Director Matt Schuiteman said last week in a House Agriculture Committee hearing.

Schuiteman, who raises pigs on his Sioux County farm, testified along with five other witnesses at a committee hearing on the implications of California's Proposition 12, which dictates production methods that farmers must follow to sell their pork in California.
