‘25 for 25,’ new exhibit from the Gerald Mead Collection, features works by acclaimed art alumni

For nearly four decades, art collector, independent curator, and former Buffalo State faculty member Gerald Mead, '85, '86, has built an encyclopedic collection of works by artists associated with Western New York, carefully assembling more than 1,900 pieces that reflect the region's artistic history. A new exhibition, 25 for 25: Promised Gifts from the Gerald Mead Collection, on view at the University at Buffalo's Anderson Gallery from April 25 to July 26, features the works of multiple Buffalo State art alumni.

Featured alumni artists include G. Peter Jemison, '67; Robert Longo, '75; professor emeritus Joseph Piccillo, '61, '64; Cindy Sherman, '76; and Michael Zwack, '70. The exhibition's 25 works have been pledged as future gifts to UB Art Galleries corresponding with its 25^th anniversary.

"It is important to me to know that some of my most treasured artworks will have a permanent purpose as an educational resource, thereby acknowledging and preserving the artistic heritage of nationally acclaimed artists with ties to this region," Mead said. "As a Buffalo State alumnus and former faculty, I am also especially proud that several of these artists are affiliated with my alma mater."
