Riley County Phones Unavailable This Weekend During Provider Change

(Riley County, KS - September 23, 2025) Riley County government departments and offices will transition to a new phone system later this week. Beginning at 6:00 p.m. Friday, September 26, the Information Technology (IT) Department will begin transferring county phone services to Cisco Webex. During the transition, county office phones will be unavailable. All county departments will be affected, and no voicemail or call forwarding will be available during the outage.

Emergency dispatch and 911 services will not be affected by the change. Those systems operate independently of the county phone network and will continue operating on their current infrastructure.

The IT Department is responsible for updating and testing more than 400 phones across Riley County departments.

"A transition of this size and scale will not be without hiccups, but staff are planning to work all weekend to ensure the process goes as smoothly as possible," IT Director Cory Meyer said. "The first priorities will be getting the Transfer Station and EMS office phones up and running, then we'll address the rest of the departments."

Phone service is expected to be fully restored by the start of business on Monday, September 29. Customers may still experience occasional difficulties reaching staff by phone in the days immediately following the transition. Residents who are unable to reach staff by phone are encouraged to email staff directly or use the contact forms available at www.rileycountyks.gov

Switching from the current service provider to Cisco Webex is expected to save the county an estimated $3,500 per month.
