New product lead, Alessandro Savarese, shares Airtable's immediate plans, lays out the direction for 2027, and explains the decision to move forward with a leaner team.
Hello, I'm Alessandro. I recently joined Airtable to lead product development following the company's acquisition by Bending Spoons, which closed in early September.
Since then, we've spent our time studying the product and speaking with customers, builders, account admins, and partners to determine our focus for the rest of 2026 and much of 2027.
Our vision for Airtable is a unified platform where customers can seamlessly bring their teams, data, workflows, and agents together in one place.
To do this, we'll invest in three key areas:
I'll go into greater detail on each area below, but first, I want to touch upon recent changes to Airtable's organization.
We're parting ways with a large portion of the pre-acquisition team, who will be leaving by the end of the week with substantial separation packages.
This decision wasn't taken lightly, and it doesn't reflect on the team's excellent work. Their passion and dedication made Airtable the product and business it is today. Many of the features below exist because of them, and we're honored to carry that work forward.
At Bending Spoons, we've seen firsthand how smaller, faster-moving teams with streamlined responsibilities can have an outsized impact, and we have the same ambitions at Airtable. We intend to make Airtable a better product while providing our customers with an exceptional level of reliability and support. We've embedded some of our most experienced engineers, product managers, and designers into Airtable to carry our plans forward. They've worked extensively across the Bending Spoons portfolio, and are already hands on, shipping our first improvements.
For customers, nothing changes regarding your plan, price, or service offering. Our focus is fully on product development and service delivery-our customer-facing organization has not been impacted and remains at your disposal.
When we started talking with builders, the requests that came up most weren't for headline features. They were for unglamorous updates and improvements that make Airtable better to use every day, such as making the platform more intuitive, adding missing options, and increasing limits.
We decided to address these requests head-on and formed a Speedy Squad to tackle them quickly. In the past three weeks, this small team has put out more than 30 improvements, including increasing automation limits, a new "delete record" action for automations, and granular edit permissions on list pages.
Going forward, the Speedy Squad will be embedded into our new Core team, led by Akshar (AP) Patel, a long-time Airtable team member and user with a keen understanding of what builders need, and how to get it over the line.
Every month, the Core team will review, shape, and ship your top-requested improvements and address your most cited requests as part of a designated sprint. Beyond that, they'll be working on strengthening the product foundations you build on every day. That includes:
Your feedback will determine what we tackle first: You can submit requests via this form.
In addition to the Core team, we've formed Performance and Infrastructure teams that will work on long-term improvements to Airtable's speed and flexibility. These groups will focus on bringing you quicker-loading bases, expanding the scope of our EU data residency offering, and broadening the limits on records, fields, and syncs per account.
Airtable has what it takes to be the best place for people and agents to work together. Today, agents are ready to take on real work, but work trapped in a black box can't be trusted, governed, or built upon. Airtable provides a unique solution: A shared system of record for people and agents where everyone sees the same data, follows the same rules, and works toward the same goals. We want teams to feel empowered to hand off whole workflows to agents with confidence.
In the coming weeks, we're rolling out four long-awaited capabilities to bring us closer to this goal:
The initial list above will unlock more powerful capabilities, but it's only the start. We're building towards a complete, integrated AI experience in Airtable, creating a place where you ask a question, build an app, and hand the work to a teammate-human or agent-all from within a single system of record.
That will mean bringing Omni and Airtable Canvas together for one smooth building experience, making canvas apps and permissions enterprise-ready, and giving agents their own identity, access, and accountability, just like the people they work alongside.
The more work AI takes on, the more control your organization needs. In the coming months, we're introducing highly requested agent permissions for Enterprise accounts to determine exactly what agents can see and do, as well as an audit log (for agents and humans) to see who did what.
The idea here is simple: An admin should feel confident rolling out Airtable to every team in the company. To achieve this, we'll be working on introducing key changes, like:
Underneath it all, we'll keep investing in enterprise-grade security and reliability. That includes building out our security and compliance programs with independent audits and regular testing, and integrating emerging AI-specific standards.
None of this works without you. We'll share our progress regularly, and we want to hear what's working and what isn't. To get in touch, you can send us your requests via this form, join the conversation in the community, or reach out to your account team. We'll also work directly with customers to build custom solutions, rolling out the most useful capabilities to our broader customer base.
For those of you attending Airspace London on October 21, I look forward to meeting you in person-please come over and say hello!
Thank you for building with Airtable. We're just getting started.
P.S. As Bending Spoons is now a public company and-since I've spent some time discussing our future plans-we also need to include the following:
