The Bundesnetzagentur has updated the gigabit register ("Gigabit-Grundbuch") with new data. The latest figures from the mobile communications monitoring ("Mobilfunk-Monitoring") show that about 95% of Germany's surface area has coverage (as at October 2025), compared to about 93% a year earlier. Deutsche Telekom provides coverage for about 87% (2024: 83%) of the surface area. coverage from Vodafone and Telefónica is about 75% and 76% respectively (2024: 71% and 72%). As much as around 98% of the country has mobile broadband coverage ( or ).
" Mobile rollout is making good progress. The results of the first national mobile network measurement week, which took place in the summer, gave us an up-to-date picture of network availability. This helps us to better assess the actual situation ," said Klaus Müller, President of the Bundesnetzagentur.
Information from the operators on mobile rollout is continuously verified using data from the Bundesnetzagentur's broadband speed checker/dead spot app ("Breitbandmessung"). The figures from the national mobile measurement week ("Mobilfunkmesswoche") are used to validate the data collected in the mobile communications monitoring.
More measurement points in broadband measurements
The strong progress in rollout is also reflected in the use of the Bundesnetzagentur's broadband speed checker/dead spot app. now accounts for the majority of the measurement points. Up until the beginning of 2025, the dominant technology was still .
The current focus of rollout is on standalone networks, where only -based infrastructure is used in both the radio access and the core network. Consumers benefit from better coverage and, as a rule, higher data rates.
The gigabit register
The mobile communications monitoring is part of the gigabit register (in German). The aim of the gigabit register is to make fixed and mobile network rollout planning easier for companies and generally create transparency as regards the availability of broadband networks. The portal provides central access to the relevant geographic information systems. It gives users access to data, maps and additional information relating to digital infrastructure via a single platform.
Data and information relating to the mobile communications monitoring and broadband measurements are available on the gigabit register website at gigabitgrundbuch.bund.de (in German).
