Majority Whip Nick Santucci (R-Niles) today released the following statement upon learning about Insight Hospital and Medical Center returning their license to the State of Ohio.
"Access to reliable, high-quality healthcare is not a luxury; it is essential to the wellbeing of our residents and the long-term stability of our region. The decision by Insight Hospital & Medical Center Trumbull to relinquish its license back to the State of Ohio is deeply concerning for the people of Warren, Trumbull County, and the surrounding communities.
I share the frustration and uncertainty felt by patients, families, and healthcare workers who have endured repeated disruptions tied to changes in ownership, licensing challenges, and operational instability over the past several years. Our community deserves clarity, accountability, and a sustainable path forward.
While members of the General Assembly do not have the authority to issue licenses or operate healthcare facilities, we do have a responsibility to advocate for our communities and ensure the appropriate state agencies are fully engaged. The Ohio Department of Health and the Governor's Office play a critical role in overseeing hospital licensing, regulatory compliance, and ensuring continuity of care, and their leadership is essential in helping stabilize and support the healthcare system in Trumbull County. At the same time, I am committed to working alongside our local and regional economic development partners to identify opportunities to recruit a new, reputable hospital system that can provide long-term, dependable healthcare services for our residents.
My office will continue to coordinate with state leadership, local officials, and economic development stakeholders to support efforts that protect patients, assist displaced healthcare workers, and ensure Trumbull County remains positioned for a sustainable healthcare future. While this situation cannot be solved by a single elected official, I remain fully committed to advocating for solutions that bring stability, accountability, and long-term care back to our region."
