Sales in the Manufacturing sector recorded RM175.0 billion, grew 9.1 per cent in April 2026
The Manufacturing sector posted sales value of RM175.0 billion in April 2026, grew 9.1 per cent (March 2026: 5.3%). The growth in sales value within the Manufacturing sector was mainly contributed by the Electrical & electronics products sub-sector, rose 13.4 per cent in April 2026 (March 2026: 13.3%). Besides that, this was further supported by the Food, beverages & tobacco sub-sector and Petroleum, chemical, rubber & plastic products sub-sector, which increased by 9.0 per cent (March 2026: 7.8%) and 4.4 per cent (March 2026: -5.1%), respectively. In comparison by month-on-month, sales value increased by 1.1 per cent, from RM173.1 billion recorded in March 2026.
Sales value growth in the export-oriented industries which accounting for 70.6 per cent of total sales, expanded by 9.6 per cent in April 2026 (March 2026: 6.5%). The performance was led by the increase in the Manufacture of computer, electronics & optical products at 15.0 per cent (March 2026: 15.2%). Moreover, the Manufacture of vegetable & animal oils and fats also registered an increment at 11.0 per cent (March 2026: 10.2%), while Manufacture of coke & refined petroleum products grew 5.3 per cent (March 2026: -2.8%). However, sales value of the export-oriented industries shrank 0.5 per cent, as compared to the preceding month.
The domestic-oriented industries increased 7.8 per cent in April 2026, after registered 2.5 per cent in the previous month. The performance was mainly supported by the growth in the Manufacture of food processing products by 5.8 per cent in April 2026 (March 2026: 5.0%); as well as in the Manufacture of other non-metallic mineral products (8.8%) and Manufacture of basic metals (6.4%). Furthermore, the domestic-oriented industries expanded 5.1 per cent, based on month-on-month growth.
A total of 2.4 million employees were recorded in this sector during April 2026, augmented by 1.2 per cent (March 2026: 1.1%). The augmentation was mainly driven by the Food, beverages & tobacco (2.2%); followed by the Non-metallic mineral products, basic metal & fabricated metal products sub-sector (1.7%) and Electrical & electronics products sub-sector (1.5%). Meanwhile, the number of employees in this sector rebounded to 0.7 per cent on month-on-month comparison.
The salaries & wages paid in the Manufacturing sector also posted an expansion of 3.1 per cent (March 2026: 2.2%), amounted to RM8.56 billion in April 2026. As compared to the amount recorded in the prior month, the salaries & wages paid increased 0.1 per cent. Subsequently, the sales value per employee registered at RM71,993 (7.7%), while the average salaries & wages per employee was RM3,524, improved by 1.8 per cent year-on-year.
For the cumulative sales of the first four months 2026, Manufacturing sector recorded sales value of RM676.5 billion, grew 6.4 per cent (Januari - April 2025: 4.2%). The number of employees upticked by 1.2 per cent to 2.4 million persons, while salaries & wages grew by 2.5 per cent to RM34.4 billion. Furthermore, the sales value per employee stood at RM278,344, increased 5.1 per cent.
