Mayor-President Sid Edwards Launches 2025 Mayor’s Youth Workforce Experience

BATON ROUGE, LA - Wednesday, April 2, 2025 - Mayor-President Sid Edwards is proud to announce the official launch of the 2025 Mayor's Youth Workforce Experience (MYWE), a dynamic summer program designed to equip more than 400 high school students across East Baton Rouge Parish withpaid work experience, career training, and educational enrichment.

Now in full swing, this transformative initiative is more than just a summer job; it's a gateway for young people to acquire essential professional skills, explore career pathways, and earn while learning. Students will be placed at various host sites throughout the parish, receiving real-world exposure to the workforce in industries ranging from business and technology to education and public service.

A key component of this year's program is the opportunity for participating students to earn industry-based credentials through Baton Rouge Community College (BRCC), which are now a requirement for high school graduation in Louisiana. These certifications fulfill graduation requirements and strengthen each student's resume and post-graduation readiness.

"The Mayor's Youth Workforce Program is an investment in the future of our city," said Mayor-President Sid Edwards. "By providing young people with real-world job experience and professional development, while also paying them for their hard work, we are helping shape the next generation of leaders and workforce talent in Baton Rouge."

This year's MYWE is made possible through valued partnerships with Senator Regina Barrow, the Baton Rouge Area Chamber (BRAC), Baton Rouge Community College (BRCC), the East Baton Rouge Parish School System, and Big Buddy. Together, these organizations are creating a pipeline of opportunities for youth to grow, thrive, and contribute meaningfully to the community.

The application period is open. The deadline to apply is Friday, April 11, 2025. Interested applicants are encouraged to act quickly to secure their spot in this exciting program.

Students who are interested can apply online at brla.gov/mywe.
