K-State Extension-Johnson County is excited to announce the relaunch of JoCo EATS, an updated online resource that helps residents eat healthier, save money, and connect with local food resources - all in one place.
First developed in 2019, JoCo Easy, Affordable, Tasty Solutions (EATS), aims to address health disparities and food insecurity in Johnson County. The JoCo EATS program has now been expanded to support health and food security in our community in a holistic way, with our local food system being a key component.
JoCo EATS (available at jocoeats.org) combines trusted, research-based information with practical tools to help people of all ages get nutritious foods on their plates. The site features:
"Our goal with JoCo EATS is to make healthy eating more accessible for everyone in Johnson County," said Chelsea King, Nutrition, Food Safety, and Health Agent with K-State Research and Extension - Johnson County. "Whether you're cooking on a tight budget, learning new kitchen skills, or looking to connect with local food resources, this site is here to help. We hope this site empowers and equips residents, regardless of income or circumstances, with the knowledge, tools, and confidence to feed themselves and their families nourishing and tasty meals."
The site also highlights opportunities to get involved through community programs such as Master Food Volunteers, which support nutrition education, food safety, and community outreach across Johnson County.
With rising concerns about affordability and access to food, as well as ongoing concerns about diet-related chronic diseases, JoCo EATS is a valuable resource for everyone in the community. Community organizations interested in partnering to host cooking demonstrations or educational sessions on meal planning, healthy recipes, food safety, and other related topics can reach out via the contact information provided above.
JoCo EATS is free and open to the public. To explore recipes, watch tutorials, or find local food resources, visit jocoeats.org.
