One of the biggest unexpected challenges for the industry this year has been the competitive environment around recruiting, according to Shannon Reid, president of Osaic and head of advisor growth and engagement.
Since LPL Financial closed on its acquisition of Commonwealth Financial in August 2025, "there has been a significant increase around independent recruiting across the industry," she said, "and competition has become very, very fierce."
The influx of private equity money over the last several years has also created a "more competitive environment," Reid said in a recent interview. "I'm a competitive person; I want everybody to bring their best, and I still want us to succeed."
Advisor Group, which rebranded as Osaic in 2023, currently supports approximately $740 billion in assets and more than 10,000 financial professionals across its network.
Approximately 80% to 85% of assets come from advisors that are small businesses filing Form 1099, split evenly between enterprise/OSJ affiliations and Osaic Advisor Direct. Another 7% to 8% of Osaic assets are managed by advisors affiliated with banks and credit unions, with the remaining handled by Osaic advisors filing Form W-2 - which can be hybrid, fee-based or fee-only that mostly serve ultra-high-net-worth clients.
As for Osaic's priorities, "large-scale M&A is not really in our plan," Reid said.
