BOZEMAN - Applications are due Friday, May 15, for Montana State University's new GROW Scholars Program, which aims to connect Montana high schoolers with paid research work to help build the next generation of agricultural leaders through hands-on experience.
GROW, which stands for Growth through Research, Opportunities and Work, will provide up to 20 scholars with the chance to conduct research at one of MSU's Montana Agricultural Experiment Station research centers across the state to gain experience with crop, livestock and rangeland systems.
Those who commit to attending MSU are also eligible for a $2,000 scholarship and the opportunity to work up to 40 hours per week during the summer and 20 hours per week during the academic year under the supervision of MSU faculty and staff. At MSU, the students and their fellow GROW scholars will participate in professional development workshops and other activities throughout their college careers.
"GROW is designed for students who are serious about their education and want real experience from the very beginning," said Joe Lackman, the program's director. "By pairing paid research with mentorship and academic support, we're helping students build skills, earn income and stay connected to Montana agriculture. This is how we grow the next generation of leaders who understand both the life and the land."
The GROW Scholars Program is funded in partnership with the CHS Foundation and is administered through MSU's College of Agriculture.
