Public Lecture at Adelaide University honours former EU chargée d’affaires to Afghanistan, Raffaella Iodice

Former EU chargée d'affaires to Afghanistan, Raffaella Iodice, was commemorated during the launch of the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence for Digital Transformations at Adelaide University, where EU Ambassador Gabriele Visentin delivered a public lecture. The event was attended by Ms Iodice's daughter and former University of Adelaide student, Charlotte De Wolff, as well as her friend and former colleague, Lucienne Manton, from the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), who shared a few words in her honour.

Raffaella Iodice was instrumental in re-establishing the EU's presence in Afghanistan following the Taliban's return to power in 2021. She is remembered for her steadfast commitment to human rights, particularly the rights of women and girls under the Taliban regime. Her legacy continues to inspire those working in humanitarian response and the defence of fundamental rights worldwide.

The University of Adelaide and the University of South Australia merged in January 2026 to create Adelaide University.
