City of Spokane Staff on Hand at Disaster Assistance Center

Staff from multiple City of Spokane departments are on hand at the Disaster Assistance Center (DAC), located at Shadle Park High School, to help fire-impacted residents navigate the road to recovery. The DAC brings together agencies and organizations in one location to make it easier for fire survivors to access assistance and get answers to their questions.

Representatives from the City's Planning and Development Services, Housing and Human Services, and Spokane 311 departments are available to connect survivors with information, resources, and assistance as they prepare to return home and begin the rebuilding process.

Planning and Development Services

Planning staff are available to talk about site cleanup, debris removal, and demolition permits. They are also collecting contact information so the City can streamline communication with impacted residents as more information becomes available.

This team is also assisting in connecting residents with the County Assessor to get relief on their property taxes, and working alongside the Department of Labor & Industries to ensure impacted individuals and families know how to vet contractors to ensure they are licensed and bonded to complete the work at hand.

Housing and Human Services

Housing and Human Services (HHS) staff are available to connect eligible residents to affordable housing units in Spokane. These residents can complete a form that City staff will use to coordinate with affordable housing providers to connect them directly to units.

HHS staff can also assist in navigating people to various resources like public benefits, food assistance, transportation, and educational support.

Spokane 311

Spokane 311 operators are available to help residents navigate various City of Spokane services. Their primary role at the DAC is to discuss utility services (water, sewer, and garbage, recycling, organic waste collections) for impacted residents.

Parks and Recreation

Spokane Parks and Recreation has opened the Shadle Aquatic Center showers, which will be available for community members starting at 2 p.m. Friday, August 7. Showers will be open throughout the weekend during the same operating hours of the DAC.

City staff will continue working alongside regional, state, and federal partners to support the community throughout the recovery process.
