Ameren Illinois Strengthening Natural Gas System in Savoy

CHAMPAIGN (SEPTEMBER 25, 2024) - As part of its ongoing commitment to provide reliable and affordable natural gas services to customers in the Savoy and Champaign County area, Ameren Illinois is installing three new regulator stations in time for the heating season. Regulator stations are a critical component of the natural gas delivery infrastructure, reducing gas pressure so natural gas can flow safely and efficiently through distribution pipes and into homes and businesses.

Ameren Illinois is also installing a new interconnection point in the Savoy station to facilitate the intake of natural gas from the eastern panhandle transmission pipeline. This interconnection opens new pathways for natural gas increases capacity and helps Ameren Illinois meet winter demand at lower costs.

"A strong and resilient natural gas system is critical to meet the energy needs of consumers and businesses and an enabler of the transition to cleaner energy sources," said Eric Kozak, Vice President of Natural Gas Operations for Ameren Illinois. "The proactive improvements we're making in Savoy are an example of our efforts to maintain safe, reliable gas service today while we develop the clean fuel technologies of tomorrow."
