Manan Sinora named September 2026 First-Gen Student of the Month

Lamar University (LU) has named Manan Sinora, a junior civil engineering major from Wylie, Texas, as its September 2026 First-Generation Student of the Month.

For Sinora, being a first-generation college student represents more than being the first in his family to navigate the college experience in the United States. It also means carrying his family's sacrifices, experiences and hopes with him as he works toward his goals.

"Being a first-generation student has many meanings," Sinora said. "It means being the first in my family to navigate the college experience in the U.S., but it also means carrying the sacrifices, experiences, and hopes of my family with me as I work toward my goals."

Sinora said his first-generation experience has taught him to take pride in his background while recognizing the opportunities his education can create for others.

"Being first gen has taught me to be proud of where I come from while also recognizing that the path I am creating can open doors for the people who come after me," he said.

As he continues his studies in civil engineering, Sinora said he is proud to represent his family, his community and other first-generation students.

"I am proud to represent my family, my community, and other first-generation students who are working to create their own paths," he said.

The First-Generation Student of the Month recognition celebrates LU students who are the first in their families to attend college and highlights the experiences, accomplishments and perspectives they bring to the university community.
