Press Release: Every Portland Resident Deserves a Safe Neighborhood

The Oregon Republican Party welcomes President Trump's decisive action to restore safety and order in Portland. Democrats tout Portland's elite "mostly-peaceful" neighborhoods by day, but pretend not to see the chaos and mayhem in vulnerable neighborhoods, where danger deters even police presence after dark. For too long, law-abiding Oregonians - including families, small businesses, and law enforcement officers - have suffered under unchecked violence and destruction.

Our communities deserve peace, not chaos; security, not fear. If the Portland Mayor and City Council refuse to allow police to respond to the violence, someone must do the job. We are grateful for the President's leadership in deploying the National Guard to protect federal property, uphold the rule of law, and safeguard the lives of Oregonians.

The ORP stands firmly for law and order, and we call on state and local leaders to work with, not against, federal efforts to bring lasting safety and stability back to Portland and to communities across our state.
