Broken Arrow in Motion January 2026

Welcome to Broken Arrow in Motion! This month, we're sharing updates on infrastructure projects and street improvements that, when complete, will make a positive impact in our community.

Watch City Manager Michael Spurgeon discuss each of the project updates on the January 2026 Broken Arrow in Motion.

The bowl has been lifted on the 2.5-million-gallon Elevated Water Storage Tank at Lynn Lane and New Orleans. Featuring City of Broken Arrow and Northeastern State University logos, the tower is an example of Broken Arrow's commitment to reinvestment in public infrastructure. This tank offers greater resiliency in the water system for our Utility customers. Landmark Structures is the contractor for this $11.5 million project, set to go online early this summer.
Continuing near Broken Arrow's newest landmark, we now shift to the County Line Trunk Sewer Phase II project near New Orleans and County Line Road. Last week, the contractor installed the ninth manhole and began vacuum testing each one. Once complete, this project will enhance wastewater capacity and reliability in the area. The project is on track for a late February finish.
Next, let's move downtown to the Oak Crest Waterline Project. The waterline is complete, and the sewer line is 75 percent finished. The concrete crew is repairing driveways and sidewalks right behind the waterline crew. We expect the sewer line work to finish in mid-March.
In addition to these utility improvements, let's turn our attention to several updates on street-widening projects happening across the city.

Work progresses on Aspen Avenue's first phase, with storm sewer pipe installation at Jasper and Aspen's northeast corner. On Jan. 20, the City Council approved the Phase 2 construction contract to expand the Aspen and Tucson intersection.

Having reviewed updates on Aspen Avenue, let's now move on to two widening projects on Houston Street.

On the Houston Street Widening Project from Garnett Road to Olive Avenue, contractors have completed driveway concrete work. They are now forming the 10-foot trail along Houston Street before paving the road's north side. This project, funded by the 2018 General Obligation Bond, will improve safety and accessibility for residents along the corridor.

And here's a heads up for our citizens living in that area. In February, Becco Contractors, LLC, will begin widening Houston Street, from Olive Avenue to Aspen Avenue, to five lanes. This is another project funded by Proposition 1 of the 2018 General Obligation Bond, and it will help accommodate increased traffic demand and reduce congestion for daily commuters.

Carriage Crossing is 70 percent complete. With asphalt finished, sidewalk, ramp, and concrete panel installation continues along North 15th Street, heading south. Once completed, the improvements will provide smoother travel and better accessibility for pedestrians and drivers. Project completion is expected by late April or early May.

Turning our attention to a key entertainment venue coming to Broken Arrow, let's talk about the infrastructure improvements for the Sunset Amphitheater project. Phase 2 of the New Orleans Street widening project is nearly done, with final asphalt, sidewalk, and cleanup work scheduled. This project brings entertainment and economic excitement to our community!

Finally, as we wrap up, asphalt work is scheduled to begin this week at the Arrow Forge Innovation District, weather permitting. The construction crew will also tie in the water lines on Olive Avenue this week.
