Chalkbeat: In rebuke of Trump, NYC files legal brief in support of Bronx student detained by ICE

On Monday, June 2, New York City's Law Department filed an amicus, or "friend-of-the-court," brief in support of Dylan, a Bronx high school student at Ellis Preparatory Academy, following his unlawful detainment by ICE after a routine immigration court proceeding on May 21.
The city's filing comes on the heels of NYLAG's habeas corpus petition asking for Dylan's immediate release. While that request was denied, NYLAG remains committed to bringing Dylan home:
"While we are disappointed with today's decision by the judge, we remain unwavering in our determination to fight for justice, due process and to bring Dylan home as soon as humanly possible," the spokesperson said in a statement. "We are extremely heartened by the fact that Dylan successfully passed his credible fear interview, which is an important win for his case in recognizing his valid need for asylum relief."
