FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
October 21, 2026
LOS ANGELES, CA - The NAACP is expanding its celebration of Black excellence on a global scale with the introduction of 10 new African categories for the 58th NAACP Image Awards, recognizing outstanding achievements in motion pictures, television, streaming and music across the African continent.
This landmark expansion underscores the NAACP's ongoing commitment to elevating diverse voices, amplifying authentic storytelling and celebrating the extraordinary talent shaping the global entertainment landscape. For the first time, African creators and entertainment professionals will have the opportunity to submit their work for consideration in dedicated categories recognizing artistic excellence and creative contributions from across the continent.
The initiative welcomes eligible submissions from creators representing all five African Union regions - Central, Eastern, Northern, Southern and Western Africa - encompassing all 55 African Union member states.
As African film, television and music continue to captivate audiences worldwide, these new categories aim to provide an expanded platform for African storytellers, performers, filmmakers and recording artists whose work is influencing culture and redefining entertainment on an international stage.
