ROK, U.S. and Japan Hold Phone Call on North Korea’s Ballistic Missile Launches (May 8)

1. On the morning of May 8 (Thursday), the officials of the Republic of Korea (ROK), the United States and Japan at the level of deputy special representative for North Korea held telephonic consultations to share their respective assessments of North Korea's ballistic missile launches conducted earlier in the day and to discuss measures for trilateral coordination.

2. The ROK, the United States and Japan condemned North Korea's ballistic missile launches, which are a clear violation of multiple UN Security Council resolutions and a serious threat to peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and in the international community. The three countries agreed to closely monitor the possibility of further provocations by North Korea and to continue close coordination to firmly respond to its provocations and threats, based on the robust ROK-U.S. alliance and the trilateral security cooperation.
