The United States Senate Federal Credit Union marked its 90th anniversary recently, celebrating nine decades of member-focused service and financial innovation that have transformed a small Capitol Hill cooperative into a nationwide credit union serving members in all 50 states.
Founded in 1935 by nine Senate employees during the Great Depression, USSFCU began as a cooperative alternative to traditional banks-built on the principle of people helping people. Ninety years later, that same member-first philosophy continues to guide its mission to deliver safe, fair, and accessible financial services to members across the country.
Today, USSFCU supports individuals, families, and communities nationwide as they reach important milestones-purchasing homes, building savings, starting businesses, and planning for a secure financial future.
"Ninety years later, that core philosophy-people helping people-is still the heart of everything we do," said Arthur Green, Chief Experience & Marketing Officer at USSFCU. "Our members' trust has fueled our growth, and we remain focused on serving them with the same care and integrity that defined our founding."
A Modern Credit Union Built for Today's Members
What began as a small credit union serving Senate staff has evolved into a national, full-service financial partner with members in every state. USSFCU's assets have tripled over the past decade, growing from $500 million to $1.5 billion-allowing the organization to reinvest directly into its members and services.

A Legacy of Giving Back
To commemorate this milestone, USSFCU launched the USSFCU Foundation, dedicated to advancing financial wellness, education, and community inclusion nationwide. The foundation builds on the credit union's long history of supporting meaningful initiatives that promote financial empowerment.
"The foundation allows us to extend our impact beyond banking," Green said. "It's about creating opportunities for financial well-being and empowering the communities where our members live and work."
Throughout 2025, USSFCU is celebrating with member appreciation events, community outreach, and a storytelling campaign highlighting members and employees whose stories reflect the credit union's enduring mission of service.
