Tuscaloosa City Council Elects District 2 Councilor Raevan Howard as President Pro Tempore

On Tuesday, September 29, the Tuscaloosa City Council unanimously elected District 2 Councilor, Raevan Howard, as President Pro Tempore. Councilor Howard is currently serving her third term as the District 2 City Councilor and is the first African American woman to serve as City Council President.

"It's an honor to have the unanimous support of my colleagues to serve as Council President," said Councilor Howard. "I look forward to working with the community, business owners and organizations to continue the legacy of Council President Kip Tyner and his advocacy for all of Tuscaloosa."

A Tuscaloosa native, Councilor Howard is a graduate of Central High School and the University of Alabama. Her father, Bobby Howard, also served on the City Council. She currently serves as the Chair of the Public Safety Committee, Vice Chair of the Community Development Committee, Member of the Finance Committee, Alternate for the Administration and Policy Committee and Member of the Planning and Zoning Commission.
