CWA Statement on 2025 Election Results

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Claude Cummings Jr., president of the Communications Workers of America (CWA) union, released the following statement in reaction to the 2025 election results:

On Election Day, working people across the country spoke with one voice and delivered a clear message: life under Donald Trump and the billionaire-backed Congressional Republican leadership has become more deeply unaffordable for working families, and voters demand representatives committed to uplifting the people who power this great country.

Voters rejected policies and leaders that have deepened the affordability crisis and raised healthcare costs for our families. From governors' mansions to mayoral offices to statehouses, voters delivered a resounding victory to leaders who put working people above the billionaires and focused on attacking rising costs instead of attacking our neighbors.

In California, voters came out in the millions to fight back against efforts by Donald Trump to entrench himself, and his Congressional supporters, in office. Working people declared that we will choose our elected representatives, not the other way around. With the passage of Proposition 50, a movement of ordinary voters came together to take back the balance of power and give voice to those in other states whose voices were silenced by the president's gerrymandering.

When we stand together, we have the power to build a country that supports working people, that defeats the power of the billionaire class and restores our democracy.
