A sarcoma is a rare type of cancer that forms in the bones and soft tissue such as muscles, nerves, blood vessels, and other connective tissue. Combining the latest technology with the expertise of nationally recognized sarcoma specialists, Capital Health Cancer Center recently launched its Sarcoma Center to offer groundbreaking, state-of-the-art therapies for patients diagnosed with this broad group of cancers.
Located at Capital Health Medical Center - Hopewell, the new Sarcoma Center is one of the most comprehensive programs of its kind in the region, offering advanced, personalized treatment plans with a multidisciplinary approach.
"We understand the fear and uncertainty that comes with a sarcoma diagnosis, which is why the specialists at our Sarcoma Center are devoted to providing advanced, life-altering care to patients and their loved ones," said Dr. Eric Mayer, director of the Sarcoma Center. "From the first consultation with our team and throughout treatment, we take the time to listen to each patient's concerns, understand their goals, and create a collaborative treatment plan that reflects their unique needs."
"Although treatment may look different for everyone, our Sarcoma Center's advanced diagnostic tools, including high-resolution imaging and molecular profiling, allow expert clinicians to precisely identify a patient's condition and customize their care plan," said Dr. Cataldo Doria, medical director of Capital Health Cancer Center. "A full range of treatment options are available under one roof at Capital Health Medical Center - Hopewell, including minimally invasive surgery, radiation therapy, and systemic therapies such as immunotherapy, targeted therapy, and chemotherapy. Patients also have access to clinical trials that offer promising treatments not available at other centers."
The multidisciplinary team at Capital Health's Sarcoma Center meets regularly to review each case and coordinate care across all phases of treatment to ensure the best possible outcomes. This team includes orthopedic oncologists, surgical oncologists, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, pathologists, radiologists, rehabilitation specialists, and nurse navigators and support staff.
