DCHA Kicks Off Summer with Block Party at Kenilworth Courts

June 9, 2026 3:30 PM

The DC Housing Authority (DCHA) celebrated the start of summer at Kenilworth Courts on Saturday, June 6, with a Rebuilding Our Communities Block Party.

Families, residents and local community members enjoyed various games, bounce houses, face painting, food, live music and a balloon release. Partygoers connected with each other throughout the day.

Before the block party started, DCHA staff and volunteers gave out free groceries to residents at Kenilworth Courts.

Service providers also attended, offering DCHA residents and community members resources regarding education, workforce development and job opportunities, healthcare and other services. Providers included local nonprofits, academic institutions, private employers and DC government agencies.

The Saturday event was part of DCHA's Rebuilding Our Communities initiative, which focuses on fostering connections among public housing residents and DCHA staff while also offering access to helpful resources. DCHA will host additional Rebuilding Our Communities events at other public housing communities throughout the summer.

DCHA is grateful for the service providers who helped make this event possible:

The Linner Foundation | WMATA | The Love More Movement | First Fruit | Academy of Hope | 211 Warmline | Howard University Division of Geriatrics Program on Cognitive Aging | Go DC Go Trails |
Life Enhancement Services | The Washington Legal Clinic for the Homeless | Wellpoint | DC Savings Plan | United Healthcare
