D.A. Bragg: Two Men Indicted For Killing Man And Shooting Of Bystander In Harlem

October 9, 2025

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg, Jr., today announced the indictments of BARSHON JAMISON, 34, and JAMES LATTIMORE, 33, for allegedly killing 32-year-old Hamid Thomas and injuring an innocent bystander during a Harlem shooting in July 2025. JAMISON and LATTIMORE are each charged in a New York State Supreme Court indictment with Murder in the Second Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, Assault in the Second Degree, and Assault in the Third Degree. [1]

"As alleged, Barshon Jamison and James Lattimore killed a man in a brazen act of gun violence in the middle of a crowded, public NYCHA development courtyard," said District Attorney Bragg. "This horrific shooting tragically claimed Hamid Thomas' life - a lifelong New Yorker - and significantly injured an innocent bystander who was trying to escape the gunfire. My thoughts are with Mr. Thomas' family and loved ones as they navigate this difficult time and I wish the victim caught in the crossfire a speedy recovery."

As alleged in court document and statements made on the record, the defendantsh had known the victim for several years. On the morning of July 14, 2025, the defendants allegedly assaulted Mr. Thomas. Following this altercation, JAMISON and LATTIMORE went to JAMISON's apartment building in NYCHA's Drew-Hamilton Houses, near West 143rd Street and 8th Avenue, where JAMISON changed his clothing and put on a ski mask.

Roughly three hours later, at approximately 2:40 p.m., JAMISON stood by a church at the end of a courtyard located in Drew-Hamilton Houses, near West 142nd Street and 7th Avenue, waiting for Mr. Thomas, who was riding a scooter in the vicinity. While waiting, JAMISON contacted LATTIMORE, who entered the courtyard. As Mr. Thomas entered the courtyard and passed by LATTIMORE, JAMISON allegedly ran into the courtyard, pulled out a gun and fired several shots at him, striking him numerous times in the midsection and arm. One of the bullets grazed a woman on her side as she was attempting to flee to safety. Mr. Thomas and the woman were both eventually transported to the hospital, where Mr. Thomas was pronounced dead.

The defendants allegedly fled the scene, heading eastbound on West 143rd Street. JAMISON was arrested in Rochester, NY on August 27, 2025. LATTIMORE was arrested on October 2, 2025.

Jamison's sister is separately charged in a Criminal Court complaint for allegedly meeting JAMISON after the shooting and driving him out of Manhattan.
