CEZ to replace key components of control system at Dukovany

Dukovany, South Moravia, March 5 (CTK) - Energy group CEZ will replace key elements of the control system of all four units at nuclear power plant Dukovany, with the consortium of Czech companies ZAT and I&C Energo winning the tender, and the ten-year project is part of a major upgrade of the power plant, CEZ said today.

"The value of the contract is not being disclosed, but it amounts to lower single digit billions of Czech crowns over the entire duration," Petr Suler of CEZ's nuclear communications department told CTK.

CEZ invests around CZK7bn annually in its two domestic nuclear power plants Dukovany and Temelin. "The goal is to strengthen efficiency, safety and ensure long-term operation. Replacing elements of the Dukovany control system is part of this," said Bohdan Zronek, CEZ board member and head of its nuclear power division.

The project involves a complete replacement of the unit control systems for the primary and secondary circuits at all four Dukovany units. One of the key conditions is that the work must not negatively affect the safety and stable operation of the units, CEZ said.

Company ZAT will be responsible for supplying the SandRA control systems and for the project's technical concept, which it has been working on since 2020. I&C Energo will be responsible for installation, commissioning, and part of the engineering work.

The four Dukovany units were commissioned between 1985 and 1987. CEZ said earlier it would like to operate them for at least 60 years. The contract for the construction of two additional units at Dukovany was awarded to South Korean company KHNP. Geological surveys for these units began in August last year.
