RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. - Today, VSP Vision™ announced it has expanded access to eye care for more than 140,000 patients through VSP Vision Eyes of Hope® this year. The program, which is dedicated to improving equitable access to care for communities in need across the country, hosted 83 mobile clinic events, surpassing its 2025 goal.
Earlier this year, VSP Eyes of Hope added to its fleet of mobile clinics and announced a goal to host 70 events in honor of the company's 70th anniversary. This year was also a milestone for VSP Eyes of Hope, marking 20 years of mobile outreach that started with Hurricane Katrina recovery efforts, which continues today.
"Expanding access to care was central to our founding optometrists' mission 70 years ago and remains central to who we are today," said VSP Vision President and CEO Michael Guyette. "VSP Eyes of Hope is a key component of that work, and a reflection of our ongoing commitment to the communities we serve in collaboration with network doctors, local organizations, and our employees."
One recent stop on the 2025 mobile clinic tour was at Island Harvest Food Bank in Melville, New York. In partnership with Island Harvest and New York State Assemblymember Steve Stern, VSP Eyes of Hope provided no-cost eye exams and prescription glasses for nearly 40 seniors, families, and unhoused community members.
"I am proud to partner with VSP Eyes of Hope and Island Harvest in bringing vision saving and life-changing care to underserved members of our community," Assemblyman Steve Stern said. "At more than 70 events this year, including one in my Assembly District in Melville, VSP Eyes of Hope has helped thousands of people, providing eye exams and free glasses, along with needed support. I look forward to working with VSP Eyes of Hope and continuing its mission."
Another stop on this year's mobile clinic tour was at B.T. Washington Elementary School in Tampa, Florida, where VSP Eyes of Hope teamed up with the school and longtime partner Bess the Book Bus to provide nearly 200 students with free eye exams, glasses and books for their home libraries-honoring the vital connection between clear vision, literacy, and childhood success in the classroom.
"Healthy vision is the foundation for both academic success and lifelong opportunity-and it's a critical component in helping students develop a love for reading. When a child can finally see the words on a page clearly, everything changes. Yet for far too many students, access to vision care remains out of reach," said Jennifer Frances, Founder and Executive Director of Bess the Book Bus. "That's why, for more than 15 years, we've proudly worked with VSP Eyes of Hope to provide essential vision care and build a web of services that removes barriers to learning, so students can truly thrive in the classroom and beyond."
Looking ahead to 2026, the VSP Eyes of Hope mobile clinics already have a growing calendar of events planned, including several with Bess the Book Bus and other literacy organizations. VSP Eyes of Hope is the charitable arm of VSP Vision and includes a variety of initiatives such as mobile clinics, disaster relief, readers donations, and more.
To date, more than 4.3 million people in need have received access to no-cost eye care and eyewear through one of the VSP Eyes of Hope initiatives.
