FDNY reminds New Yorkers of important safety tips for Lunar New Year celebrations

February 17, 2026

In a new Public Service Announcement (PSA), the FDNY reminds New Yorkers of important safety tips for celebrating the Lunar New Year.

  • Fireworks, including sparklers are dangerous and illegal in New York City. Consider using paper confetti poppers.
  • Use battery-powered candles in lanterns and decorations as a safe alternative.
  • Always be sure to have working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms.

For more safety tips and resources, go to FDNYSmart.org.

The Department's PSA program is made possible in part with support from the FDNY Foundation, the official nonprofit organization of the Department.
