Trump Eliminates Data Report on Hunger in America as He Guts Food Assistance for Millions of Kids and Families Arrow

The Trump administration is trying to cover up their tracks by cancelling an annual government report on hunger in the U.S. This comes months after Trump's billionaire-first budget bill, which made the largest cut to food assistance in history for millions of Americans, while prices - especially for groceries - continue to skyrocket and the job market tanks. It's no surprise that Trump and his lackeys are trying to get rid of proof about how much damage his reckless policies are causing to millions of working families.

In response, DNC Rapid Response Director Kendall Witmer released the following statement:

"It's no wonder that Donald Trump is trying to cover up how many Americans are struggling to get enough food - his billionaire-first budget bill is the largest cut to food assistance in history. Needlessly cutting SNAP benefits while the job market has slowed to a crawl, inflation is soaring, and real wages are falling is just plain cruel. Trump can try and cover up the reality all he wants, but there's no getting around the fact that his reckless economic policies are leaving working and middle-class families hungry."

Under Trump's watch, rising inflation, a deteriorating job market and cuts to food assistance are expected to dramatically increase food insecurity. For the past 30 years, the USDA has provided data that helps inform how Americans' food needs can be better met. But now that this crucial research is being shut down as more families are struggling to put food on the table, we are heading to a food insecurity crisis of Trump's own making.

This is not the first time Trump has tried to cover up his failures. After Trump got his feelings hurt by a disastrous jobs report, he fired the head of the Bureau of Labor Statistics and installed his own lackey. It's obvious that Trump can't handle the truth about how bad the country is doing under his own watch, so instead of facing the music, he uses his political power to undermine government transparency.
