Commission partners with the European Union Intellectual Property Office to support the enforcement of the Digital Services Act

The Commission has signed an agreement with the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), which takes effect as of today, to strengthen the enforcement of intellectual property (IP) rights under the Digital Services Act (DSA).

The overall goal is to support the enforcement of the DSA in relation to IP rights infringements. The agreement will strengthen the Commission's capabilities to take enforcement actions under the DSA to address systemic risks affecting IP rights posed by very large online platforms and search engines (VLOPs and VLOSEs). These risks include, among others, the dissemination of IP-infringing content, such as counterfeit goods and online piracy.

The EUIPO will also expand its actions to enhance capabilities for combating IP infringement risks among judicial and enforcement authorities, online intermediaries that are not designated as VLOPs and VLOSEs, and IP rights holders.

The DSA sets landmark rules to create a safe and transparent online environment in the EU. Effective and active cooperation with other European bodies, offices, and agencies is crucial to safeguard users' fundamental rights, including those related to intellectual property.
