Celebrate America's 250th Birthday in The Heart of it All

(COLUMBUS, Ohio) - As bursts of red, white, and blue light up Ohio's skies, communities across all 88 counties are kicking off a wave of picnics, parades, festivals, and Fourth of July traditions that set the stage for a summer-long celebration of America's 250th birthday.

These hometown gatherings are part of a broader national effort to honor the people, places, and moments that helped shape the American story. From fireworks and concerts to picnics and community festivals, Ohioans are celebrating a legacy that includes eight U.S. presidents, the birthplace of aviation, and generations of innovators, inventors, and military leaders who have defined the nation's history.

"As the United States approaches its 250th birthday, communities across Ohio are finding meaningful ways to celebrate our history, honor those who built this country, and bring people together," said Governor DeWine. "From large cities to small towns, Ohioans are helping tell America's story while creating new traditions that will carry us into the next 250 years."

"America's 250th birthday is an opportunity to celebrate the communities, traditions, and values that have shaped our nation," said Lydia Mihalik, Director of the Ohio Department of Development. "Across Ohio, these events are bringing people together while showcasing the hometown pride that continues to define our state."

America 250-Ohio is the statewide initiative commemorating the nation's 250th anniversary in 2026. The effort includes more than one-thousand events and experiences taking place throughout the year across all 88 counties to celebrate Ohio's unique contributions to the American story while inviting residents and visitors alike to explore the communities, landmarks, and traditions that helped shape the nation.

These celebrations also provide opportunities for Ohioans to reconnect with family and friends, discover new destinations, and support the local businesses and organizations that help communities thrive. Visiting friends and relatives remains the top reason visitors come to Ohio, and summer events help showcase the best of what the state has to offer.

Fourth of July festivities are among the highlights featured in this year's Ohio Summer Events Guide. Across the state, communities are hosting everything from fireworks displays and parades to flea markets, concerts, and ice cream socials. These celebrations complement more than 160 Signature Ohio Homecoming & Picnic events taking place throughout the summer, creating opportunities for Ohioans and visitors alike to experience local history, culture, and community traditions.
