Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong Meets with Ambassador of Brunei to China Pehin Dato Abdul Rahman Ibrahim

On March 13, 2026, Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong met with Ambassador of Brunei to China Pehin Dato Abdul Rahman Ibrahim.

Sun Weidong stated that last year, President Xi Jinping and Sultan of Brunei Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah have reached important common understandings on building a China-Brunei community with a shared future, which has provided strategic guidance for the continuous high-level development of China-Brunei relations. This year 2026 marks the first year of China's 15th Five-Year Plan period as well as the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Brunei. China is ready to work with Brunei to implement the important common understandings reached between the two heads of state, carry forward traditional friendship, strengthen high-level exchanges, deepen the alignment of development strategies, enhance people-to-people and cultural cooperation, and reinforce coordination in multilateral affairs, so as to advance the building of a China-Brunei community with a shared future in greater depth and substance, injecting more positive energy into regional and global prosperity and stability.

Pehin Dato Abdul Rahman Ibrahim congratulated China on the successful conclusion of the Two Sessions and remarked that China's steady development brings well-being to its people and opportunities to the region, wishing China new and greater achievements in the 15th Five-Year Plan period. Brunei and China maintain a close and friendly bilateral relationship. Brunei expresses hope to take the 35th anniversary of diplomatic ties as an opportunity to enhance strategic communication and coordination, achieve more results in key areas of cooperation, expand people-to-people exchanges, and lift the bilateral relations to a new height.

The two sides also exchanged views on the international and regional situations as well as other issues of common concern.
