Georges River Council is inviting community feedback on the installation of new security gates at Oatley Park. The gates are set to improve safety and protect the park's natural environment.

Oatley Park is one of Georges River's most loved and recognised parks. As a designated wildlife protection area, the park is home to native animals and plants that need our care and protection.

Recent reports of vandalism and damage to trees have prompted Council to act.

To help protect the park from vandalism, we are proposing to install two new security gates further into the park, along with signage showing opening and closing times. Sandstone blocks will also be placed around the sporting field car park to improve safety and restrict vehicle access after the park has closed.

The two new gates will open at 6:00am and close at 7:30pm daily. The main gate at Oatley Park Avenue will open at 6:00am and close at midnight, ensuring minimal disruptions to organised sports on the field. allowing continued evening access to the sporting fields.

The Douglas Haig Street entrance will open at 6:00am and close at 7:30pm. All park signage will be updated to reflect these times.

Georges River Council Mayor Elise Borg said, "Oatley Park is a precious part of our community and a haven for native wildlife. These proposed changes will help us reduce vandalism and protect the park's bushland, while still ensuring access to the sporting fields in the evening for training."

"I encourage our community to share their feedback and help us shape a safer, more sustainable future for Oatley Park.

"If you witness vandalism, damage to trees, or any illegal activity in the park, I encourage you to report it. Call 000 in an emergency or contact the Police Assistance Line on 131 444 for non-urgent matters. Council's Log It or Fix It tool is also available online 24/7.

"Your reports help us respond quickly and keep the park safe and enjoyable for everyone."

The community can visit the Oatley Park Security Gate Your Say webpage to find out more information and submit feedback.

The consultation closes on Monday 17 November 2025.
