Gilbert, AZ. - From clean water and reliable infrastructure to safe streets and the public spaces we enjoy, engineering shapes daily life in Gilbert. This week, the Town of Gilbert joins communities nationwide in celebrating National Engineers Week (February 22-28, 2026) to recognize the people whose expertise keeps Gilbert running smoothly and prepares our community for the future.
"Engineers Week is a wonderful opportunity to shine a light on the talented men and women who plan, design, inspect and deliver the infrastructure that makes Gilbert one of the best places to live, work, and play," said Susanna Struble, Town Engineer. "Their commitment to excellence is evident on every road we drive, every intersection we cross, the clean water we drink, the parks we play in, and every project that enhances our community."
About the Town of Gilbert Engineering Department
The Town of Gilbert's Engineering Department serves as the backbone of the community's infrastructure planning and delivery, operating through three specialized divisions.
Capital Improvement (CIP) Division - This team is responsible for planning, managing, and delivering the Town's capital improvement projects from concept to completion. They oversee programming, project design, contractor procurement, and construction management for major public infrastructure investments in transportation, utilities, parks, and facilities.
Traffic Division - This division keeps Gilbert's transportation network safe and efficient for residents, commuters, and visitors. They manage traffic signal operations and fiber network and timing, conduct traffic studies and analyses, oversee signage and pavement markings, and implement traffic safety improvements throughout the Town.
Town Engineers Office - This group is charged with the long-term stewardship of Gilbert's public infrastructure assets, including oversight of the Town's engineering standards. They support the establishment and maintenance of engineering standards that guide the design, construction, and improvement of public infrastructure, and provide technical expertise on the maintenance, rehabilitation, and improvement of the Town's streets, drainage systems, water, wastewater, parks and related public facilities.
Development Services Engineering Division
Working in close partnership with the Engineering Department, the Development Services Engineering Division plays a vital role in guiding private development projects through the Town's review and permitting process. This team reviews construction plans and engineering submittals, ensures new development meets the Town's rigorous infrastructure standards through inspection, and coordinates with the Engineering Department to seamlessly integrate private development with the Town's broader infrastructure network.
Engineering Leadership in Public Works
Engineering expertise extends beyond project delivery and development review; it also guides the Town's Public Works operations. Gilbert's Public Works Department is led by the Public Works Director and two Assistant Public Works Directors, all of whom hold engineering degrees and licenses, bringing technical knowledge and a data-driven approach to the day-to-day operations and long-term planning of the Town's public services.
