Stevenson University's Mock Trial began the Spring 2025 season with a strong performance at Drexel University's Dragon Invitational.
Two students on Stevenson's team-junior Melanie Lopez and freshman Kylie Owens-were recognized for their individual performances. Both received an Outstanding Attorney award, and Melanie Lopez also received an Outstanding Witness award.
During the weekend of January 18-19, Stevenson successfully competed against teams from Penn State University, the University of Buffalo, Temple University, and the University of Pittsburgh. Stevenson ultimately came in fifth out of 24 total teams, only losing in its round against the University of Pittsburgh.
Other teams competing in the tournament included Northeastern University, Rutgers University, Iona University, Dickinson College, Drexel University, American University, Seton Hall University, Temple University, William & Mary, University of Delaware, University of Rochester, and University of Maryland, Baltimore County.
"This weekend was our team's first tournament in a while and we did amazing," said Melanie Snyder, Program Coordinator, Professor of Law, and Stevenson University Mock Trial Coach. "We took fifth place overall in a very competitive tournament and took home multiple awards. This is also a very young team, which makes the success even more exciting. Most of all, it was incredible watching the team think on their feet and bond with each other and with teams from across the region."
The strong start to the Spring 2025 season maintains Stevenson's record of success in mock trial competitions. Mock Trial will next be traveling to Johns Hopkins University to compete in the Blue Jay Tournament on January 25-26.
