Dentons announces today that Ian Carleton Schaefer has joined the Firm's Employment and Labor practice as a partner in the New York office. Schaefer is a dynamic, go-to advisor for sports leagues and clubs, entertainment companies, as well as financial and professional services organizations navigating high-stakes workplace, reputational, and crisis-management matters.
Schaefer brings more than 20 years of experience advising employers on complex litigation, sensitive workplace investigations, executive transitions, and the workplace implications of social movements and emerging technologies on a global scale. He works across a broad range of industries-from sports, media, and entertainment to financial and professional services, fashion, retail, and healthcare-advising organizations ranging from emerging companies to the Fortune 500. He is nationally recognized as a thought leader in both employment and sports law, and frequently sought by media such as The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, CNBC, and Politico to provide insight and commentary on issues impacting the modern workplace. Notably, Schaefer co-authored the successful briefs in 14 Penn Plaza v. Pyett, the landmark US Supreme Court decision that reshaped 35 years of labor law.
"Ian is the person clients turn to when the stakes are highest, whether it's a crisis, a sensitive investigation, or a workforce issue with real business impact," said Dan Beale, head of Dentons' US Employment and Labor practice. "As we continue to build and strengthen our US Employment and Labor team, Ian will be a key contributor, bringing deep experience advising global clients and a perspective that complements and enhances Dentons' broader global employment and labor platform."
