ATLANTA (November 13, 2025) - Lt. Governor Burt Jones has appointed Sen. Max Burns (R-Sylvania) to serve on the Georgia Council on Literacy, a statewide body charged with improving literacy outcomes for Georgians of all ages.
"I am grateful to Lt. Governor Jones for the opportunity to serve on the Georgia Council on Literacy," said Sen. Burns. "Literacy opens the door to every form of learning and achievement. It is the bridge between education and a strong workforce, and strengthening it is essential to Georgia's long-term growth and competitiveness. Throughout my career in higher education, I have seen how literacy shapes a student's path and determines their opportunities later in life. Our commitment to improving literacy must extend through every level of education so that all Georgians have the skills to succeed. I look forward to working with the council to advance this mission and help make Georgia a national leader in literacy."
The Georgia Council on Literacy was created to improve literacy outcomes statewide and align education policy with evidence-based practices. The council includes members from the Georgia General Assembly, state education agencies, universities and community organizations. Its responsibilities include reviewing statewide literacy data, evaluating programs and best practices and making policy and budget recommendations.
