LOS ANGELES - On Saturday, Mayor Bass continued her Shine LA movement in the communities of Del Rey, Sun Valley and Baldwin Hills. With the World Cup arriving in Los Angeles this summer, Shine LA continues to inspire Angelenos to take localized actions in their communities to ensure that every neighborhood gets to shine on the world stage. "With the World Cup starting in June, we are inviting Angelenos to join the effort to get our city ready when the global spotlight turns to Los Angeles," said Mayor Bass. "Through community-driven volunteer opportunities, Shine LA is inspiring residents to take pride in the places they call home, creating a stronger, more unified city that's ready to welcome the world."
"A day like this isn't just about cleaning up a street or a sidewalk," said Councilmember Adrin Nazarian, Council District 2,who represents the southern portion of Sun Valley. "It's about taking pride in our neighborhood and showing respect for one another as neighbors. Events like these build trust between local government and the people we serve, and they build a sense of shared community among all of us who call this city home."
"Sun Valley is my hometown, and I'm excited the Mayor is here today to shine a light on this incredible community," said Councilmember Imelda Padilla, Council District 6. "Every year, our office hosts cleanups in every neighborhood across Council District 6 because real progress doesn't start at City Hall, it starts with community action. Today's turnout is a powerful reminder that when residents, volunteers, community partners, and all levels of government work side by side, we build cleaner, stronger, and more connected neighborhoods. Shine LA is community in action, and today sends a clear message: Sun Valley shows up, and Sun Valley takes pride in where we live."
Mayor Bass joined community members to kickoff Shine LA in Sun Valley alongside Councilmembers Imelda Padilla, Adrin Nazarian and Board of Public Works President Steve Kang. Volunteers participated in a community clean-up at the Sun Valley Recreation Center followed by a resource fair to provide Angelenos with important sustainability resources and educational materials. Mayor Bass joined community members in Sun Valley last year after launching Shine LA in her 2025 State of the City address.
Joining Councilmember Heather Hutt and other leaders in Marlton Square, Mayor Bass continued Shine LA with a community festival centered in sustainability, environmental action and creating a cleaner, greener Los Angeles.
"Mayor Bass continues to serve Angelenos through collaboration and community partnerships, proving that when we work together, we can accomplish anything," said Councilwoman Heather Hutt, Council District 10."Shine LA brings people together, while creating brighter, greener neighborhoods that we can all take pride in."
Volunteers also gathered in Del Rey along the Ballona Creek Bike Path to revitalize the area, as well as the larger Milton Street Park that is central to the local community. Shine LA is continuing to foster new volunteer opportunities at sites across the city, expanding its footprint every month into new neighborhoods.
With multiple major events coming to Los Angeles, like the World Cup and 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games, Shine LA is empowering residents to build thriving communities that are more connected and resilient.
Shine LA is hosted every fourth Saturday of the month at various sites across Los Angeles. Angelenos can go to mayor.lacity.gov/ShineLAto sign-up for notifications when Shine LA comes to their neighborhood or to work with the Mayor's Office to host their own Shine LA.
