PALMDALE, CA - The City of Palmdale has approved the purchase of four new vehicles for its Public Works department, a strategic investment that will expand essential services, improve operational efficiency and further enhance the quality of life for residents.
With newer and more efficient equipment, the Community Preservation Program team will be able to address graffiti the same day or within 24 hours and address illegal dumping within three days. This equipment will also allow for Public Works to fully fill in potholes, completely transforming Palmdale's streets and roadways.
The new fleet additions include two Roadline GPMT Graffiti Removal Trucks, one Kenworth T880 Super 10 Dump Truck, one Petersen Lightning Loader and one PB Loader B-5 Asphalt Truck. The total investment, not to exceed $1.27 million, was allocated through the City's Fiscal Year 2024-25 budget.
"These new vehicles are more than just equipment - they're an investment in the safety, cleanliness and long-term maintenance of our neighborhoods," said Mayor Richard J. Loa. "Our Public Works team plays a vital role in keeping Palmdale moving forward, and this fleet expansion provides the tools they need to serve our community with excellence."
The two new graffiti abatement trucks, partially funded by Measure AV, will replace repurposed service vehicles and bring the City's total to five graffiti removal units - one for each Council district. Developed in partnership with Roadline, these trucks feature an advanced water recovery system that meets stormwater protection regulations and improves safety.
The Kenworth T880 Super 10 Dump Truck will support daily street maintenance operations, including debris removal and construction support, as existing equipment is reallocated to support growing community preservation needs such as illegal dumping and encampment cleanups.
The Petersen Lightning Loader, designed for large debris pickup, will enhance cleanup of illegal dumping and encampments while assisting with day-to-day maintenance like tree removal and drainage clearing.
Lastly, the PB Loader B-5 Asphalt Truck will replace the City's nearly 25-year-old paving machine. This new self-contained vehicle supports efficient and durable pothole repair and asphalt rehabilitation, aligning with state air quality regulations and modern operational standards.
"By upgrading our Public Works fleet, we're improving turnaround times, reducing equipment rental costs and making our neighborhoods cleaner and safer," said Mayor Pro Tem Laura Bettencourt. "This is a smart, proactive step that residents will see and feel in their daily lives."
