Shaheen Statement on SCOTUS Ruling on President Trump’s Abuse of Emergency Powers to Impose Sweeping Tariffs

(Washington, DC) - U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), Ranking Member of the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee and a senior member of the U.S. Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship, released the following statement on the U.S. Supreme Court decision finding that President Trump does not have the authority to impose tariffs under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) law. The ruling is in line with the argument Shaheen and more than 30 of her Senate colleagues and 171 House colleagues made in a bipartisan Amicus Brief she filed with the Supreme Court last year.
