NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ (June 17, 2026) - New Brunswick is set to honor Juneteenth with a sprawling, multi-day celebration next week that brings together local civic leaders, performers, and first responders. The three-day lineup highlights African American freedom and heritage through a series of citywide cultural events, community dining, and a historic parade.
The commemoration begins Thursday, June 18, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. with the local NAACP's annual Juneteenth Celebration at the New Brunswick Performing Arts Center's Arthur Laurents Theater, 11 Livingston Ave. The free event features live music, dance, spoken word, and local food, though free reservations are required.
On Friday, June 19, Ebenezer Baptist Church, 126 Lee Ave., will host a community cookout with seatings at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. The dinner is coordinated alongside Saint Peter's University Hospital, City firefighters, and local civic centers.
The festivities culminate on Saturday, June 20, with the Vulcan Pioneers' 10th annual Juneteenth Celebration. An 11 a.m. parade will kick off at George Street and Remsen Avenue, routing to Recreation Park, at Pine Street and Jersey Avenue, for a free Freedom Festival from noon to 6 p.m. featuring food trucks, live music, and children's activities.
